With rumors of a last-minute renewal still very much unsubstantiated, there may well only be four episodes left of Yellowstone. And while each and every one of those episodes will no doubt be packed with the kind of excitement and drama that fans have come to expect from the hit Western, it’s only natural that minds have already begun to fixate on the finale. Though the details are still being kept tightly under wraps, we have gotten a few hints about what to expect from the impending end of the Dutton saga, including from star Luke Grimes who plays the youngest Dutton son, Kayce.
Luke Grimes Opens Up About the Emotional Finale
“I was kind of a mess when I read the very last episode,” the actor told the Hollywood Reporeter. “I saved the last one for as long as I could, until I couldn’t stand it anymore. Since the very beginning, Taylor told me he didn’t want me to know how it ended until we got here, because he said that it would maybe make me play things a little differently,” he explained. “So it felt like I waited so long already that I didn’t want to read it and I wanted to hold off.”
“I remember the night before we started shooting [season 5B], I couldn’t lock in. It had been two years and I was like, “Where’s Kayce at? How do I do this?” I couldn’t figure out how to get back into it, and so I read the last episode. And it did what I thought it would do. I was pulled immediately back into the story. It was also so beautiful, so profound. It was so perfect, I thought. I think it ends really perfectly and I can’t imagine it now ending any other way.”
As for the rumored possibility of the show getting picked up for another outing, Grimes was circumspect, saying only, “We keep saying that if Taylor calls and it’s something he wants to do and it’s something he wants to write, we would absolutely say yes.”
Cole Hauser Sets the Record Straight About ‘Yellowstone’ Series Finale Theories
Given how the latest installment kicked off with the death of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his kids’ reactions to the news, it’s easy to see why viewers are already casting their theories on who killed the family patriarch. What’s more, fans are eager to see Jamie (Wes Bentley), Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly)’s already volatile relationships get even more erratic, and it’s all down to who will become the next leader of the ranching-turned-political family.
Well, with theories swirling on Reddit on what’s to come in future episodes, Cole (who plays Beth’s husband and rancher Rip Wheeler) is here to tell you to expect the unexpected. As he shared with Reuters in an interview published on November 12, fans will be surprised by what’s coming down the line for the show … even if they already have their own opinions about it.
“This show and what they think this season is going to be — everybody has their opinion of it,” he told the outlet. “And to be quite honest, none of them are right.”
Well, that’s definitely something to be intrigued about! And although everyone in the know is keeping mum about how Yellowstone will finally end, Cole did tease that this last installment will be a great way to wrap up this era of the Dutton family.
“[Kelly and I] both were told by [show creator] Taylor [Sheridan] many moons ago what his dream was for the characters and the ending and where they would be, so we kind of had an idea,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in an article published on November 13. “But to see it on the page and then to be able to shoot it was kind of a beautiful moment for me.”
With that kind of build-up, we need to make sure we tune in every week until the impactful Yellowstone finale!
