Don’t worry, 1923 fans: the wait is going to be worth it.
Filming on the long-awaited second season of the Yellowstone prequel series began in June, and star Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer
Dutton, has teased that the upcoming episodes will be worth the wait.
“I can confidently say that it’s going to be absolutely incredible,” Sklenar, 34, told Forbes of season 2, for which he’s had the scripts for more than “six months.”
“The tone shifts a lot and it’s definitely a bit darker. It’s very beautiful,” he said, sharing that he will get “plenty of Helen [Mirren] and Harrison [Ford] time, and it’s going to be special.”
Mirren, 79, and Ford, 82, play the Dutton family’s matriarch and patriarch, Cara and Jacob Dutton, and Sklenar plays their nephew, who is on a journey to return to Montana with his love interest, Alex (Julia Schlepper), in the second Yellowstone prequel series, which followed 1883.

While Sklenar remained tight-lipped on the plot of season 2 to “not give away spoilers,” he teased that the show’s culmination is one to get excited about.
“The finale of the series is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life,” he told Forbes. “I’ve kind of known how it was going to end since day one — Taylor [Sheridan] kind of told me. I knew the full arc of Spencer from day one, so in shooting part one, you’re mindful of where he needs to go. I’m really excited.”
Following the season 1 finale in February 2023, Sklenar — who stars as Blake Lively’s love interest Atlas Corrigan in It Ends With Us — told PEOPLE that his 1923 role was “definitely the best character I’ve played and my favorite experience working thus far.”
