Everyone in Yellowstone is at war in the official trailer for Season 5 Part 2 released on Tuesday, October 22. Unexpected alliances are formed on the Dutton side while in-fighting between Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) implies
that Jamie feels guilt over something they’ve done, adding fuel to our theory that Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton will meet his end because of his son.
Footage of Costner is used in the trailer, above, but it’s old footage from past seasons. Costner won’t be in the new episodes, premiering Sunday, November 10 on Paramount Network and CBS. But his presence looms throughout the trailer. “Everyone’s forgotten who runs this valley,” he says to Rip (Cole Hauser) at the beginning of the trailer. “Time to remind them.”
Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip reaffirm their commitment to their “family’s legacy,” the ranch, before Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) appears in another frame and vows to end it with Jamie (Wes Bentley). Sarah seems to be goading Jamie into killing his father.
“Old lions die in the jaws of younger lions,” she says. “And you are the younger lion.” Later on, Sarah angrily tells Jamie, “I took all the risk, and I took it for you.” Jamie looks distressed, and he’s later seen smashing a door open before a quick cut to Beth shows her pulling out a large knife.
We previously theorized that Jamie would kill John in Season 5 Part 2, and then Beth and Rip would spend the rest of the season hellbent on killing Jamie in return. Should Yellowstone continue with a sixth season with Beth and Rip at the center as is rumored, our theory fits right into that. And the new Yellowstone trailer adds to it.
Everyone’s picking a side in the Dutton civil war. And surprisingly, though they have teamed up before, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) makes a blood oath with Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and they declare themselves as “brothers.” Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) and others from their reservation then appear on horseback at night time seemingly prepared for a fight. “This is the hill we die on,” Thomas later says to Mo, who replies, “I’m ready.”
Rip and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) then stage a fiery attack on someone’s car as Beth is heard saying, “I can’t do this anymore.” “Well, you’re going to have to, honey, or we’re going to lose this place.” He says that as a shot of Costner reappears, making for an ominous moment.
The hit series returns Sunday, November 10 at and will mark the first season without Costner. The Horizon star was featured in the new Yellowstone promo released on Wednesday, August 28, however, and it seemed to hint at a fiery end for the cowboy. The season’s key art (above) implies again that John’s exit from the series will be at the hands of a fatal event.
